BRIAN REID PHOTOGRAPHER

Celtic Connections, Glasgow

I had a very enjoyable, if short, weekend in Glasgow with my brother Jim to enjoy a couple of concerts, part of the Celtic Connections. My main attraction was the chance to see Watchhouse, formerly Mandolin Orange, on Saturday at the Pavilion and we followed up with a gig at the Drygate Brewery on Sunday with a couple of jazz combos. The timing allowed for a lovely stroll around a little bit of Glasgow from the town centre to the Clyde via Kelvingrove. Here are a small selection of scenes which were typical of the variety along the way. Jim is familiar with Glasgow so was a fine guide to interesting places like Garnehill, providing the headline photo looking to the University across the river Kelvin, sitting in the valley. Where necessary I have added a caption or two.

This statue was erected by public subscription on May 1st 1992 to the memory of Bud Neill, 1911-1970, cartoonist & poet, creator of Lobey Dosser, Sheriff of Calton Creek, his sturdy steed El Fideldo, resident villain Rank Bajin, and many other characters.

For those who don’t know that is Jimmy Reid, no relation, in the middle.

Time to follow the Clyde along the Broomielaw.

Who knew the original was in Glasgow?
