After the Snow

Saturday, 11 March 2023 17:18

After this week’s snow, sleat and rain it was inevitable that the river (Great Ouse) would burst it banks. This is a regular occurence in the winter months and generally the towns along the river have some protection but that means the water has to go somewhere. At St Ives there are meadows on the south and east side of the river which flood impressively and today was no exception. The Dolphin Hotel has a lovely spot by the old town bridge but just eleveated above the flood plain but that does not include the main carpark. Only one vehicle there. Oops. Here are a pair of panoramas giving some idea of the extent of flooding. I’ve added a few shots around town, some in the floods others just local landmarks. The coots are technically in a field that usually has cows. I’ll finish with a lucky moment of timing as the farmer was managing some new lambs.
