France October 2024 - Day 5 Cahors to Toulouse
Wednesday, 9 October 2024 17:36
Today was a short run South to Toulouse with a couple of main stops along the way including on Le Mont St Cyr with its panoramic view of Cahors. The morning had spits and spots of rain but otherwise warm and often sunny, as it was at my second main stop at Montauban for a wander and a bite of lunch. It was then on down to Toulouse with a rainy stop to charge the car at Blagnac near the airport and Airbus factory. The headline shot is a stiched panorama from Le Mont St Cyr and then below is Pont Valentre and my hotel by the river both to the left of the panorama. One of the pleasures of traveling by car is to stop when you see something interesting, assuming it is safe. The mill at Alblas caught my attention. Alblas is not pretty but it is definitely French. Time to get the fedora on for the sunny sights in Montauban. In the Place Nationale there is a ground fountain which was popping up little streams and suddenly decided that mist was required. Pretty cool except for those having lunch down wind! “Not another bridge” I hear you cry. The 13 century “old bridge” spans the Tarn river and still manages cars and vans. Not bad. I am safely installed in Toulouse after negotiating the wandering masses while driving to the underground car park at the Capitol where the hotel is at the far end of the “place” facing the photographer. A short walk away from the horror of these restaurants I found a lovely little brasserie, Chez Marco, on the right in the photo. Not too far from the hotel as the weather is closing in. A nice gentle day getting ready for the walking tour of Toulouse tomorrow.
