BRIAN REID PHOTOGRAPHER
Another Grey Day or Two at Old Warden
Friday 13 September 2024 11:20
Those who follow my blog will know that one of my regular haunts is the airfield at Old Warden with its Swiss Garden and the Shuttleworth Collection. I have made a couple of visits in the past few days, the first not really planned and the second to catch up for a coffee with friends. The first was a quick decision when I headed off to my planned destination as heavy rain came on so decided if worst came to worst I would just take a walk through the hangers at Old Warden. It turned out to be pretty grey and just drizzly so ventured into the garden as well. On Wednesday it was pretty stormy so all in all grey was the dominant sky colour. In fact the light is good for pictures of ducks and herons and flowers. The peacock is one of a new pair in the garden and clearly knows who provides food. A surprise arrival was a SIAI-Marchetti SF.260AM, ex Italian air force in gorgeous orange. The rain on the canopy was too good to resist. This weekend is a steam festival at Old Warden and there were some early arrivals including Mr Potter a pristine traction engine viewed against a stormy sky. As it happens the storm came on the drive home with torrential rain and hail. Fortunately it had passed before I had to get out of my car.
