France October 2024 - Day 8 Pau to Bayonne
I hurriedly change my plan for today when I checked the weather over breakfast. I had considered a slight energy top up in Pau before heading up into the foothills of the Pyrenees on what will be a short run in the car. The plan looked good but I have found that taking a trip up mountain roads in the rain to see no views is not the best plan. So it was a more direct route to Bayonne with no safety...
France October 2024 - Day 7 Toulouse to Pau
Today has been another short road journey day from Toulouse to Pau with stops at Tarbres and Lourdes to keep me fit. Tarbes appears to be a steel town and right in the middle is a large garden, the Massey, which was a perfect place to stretch my legs and enjoy the peacocks in pleasant lunchtime sunshine. In fact after a cold grey start it has been very sunny, although not hot, which make a change....
France October 2024 - Day 6 Toulouse
Time to leave the car in the garage and stride out around the centre of Toulouse. I picked a few top spots that were spread around the city as target points and then enjoyed the sights along the way. There are always places, not in the guide books, that attract my attention and today was no exception. A quick weather report, “changeable”. I guess you are wondering how many more bridge pictures you...
France October 2024 - Day 5 Cahors to Toulouse
Today was a short run South to Toulouse with a couple of main stops along the way including on Le Mont St Cyr with its panoramic view of Cahors. The morning had spits and spots of rain but otherwise warm and often sunny, as it was at my second main stop at Montauban for a wander and a bite of lunch. It was then on down to Toulouse with a rainy stop to charge the car at Blagnac near the airport and...
France October 2024 - Day 4 Les Vignobles de Cahors
No it was not a miserable day, weatherise, although I was not upset to see mist on the Lot from my balcony when I got up. A quick change of plan and a walk up to the Valentre Bridge in the mist avoiding death from the commuters along the very narrow riverside road. This is the wonderful Valentre Bridge, more of which later. With mist it is all about luck and timing. The view back to the railway bridge...
France October 2024 - Day 3 Chateauroux to Cahors
The weather has changed a bit with the rain no longer being heavy and is now torrential when it is falling. A lot of water has been deposited between Chateauroux and Cahors but I have had 4 1/2 lucky moments. First was a little wander around Chateauroux, dry, then a walk around Le Blanc in the Parc Natural des Brenne, half dry, a walk around Limoges almost dry, a stop with Susan and Charlie, almost...
France October 2024 - Day 2 South to Chateauroux
You cannot control the weather but sometimes you are lucky. It rained most of the day, sometimes heavy, with occasional brief breaks but as it was a driving day that did not create a problem. In fact on both occasions I stopped to charge the car, one to get me here to Chareauroux and the other to start with a good level of charge for tomorrow, the rain was light or absent. My route took me to Orleans...
France October 2024 - Day 1 Home to Ouistreham
Hi Ho, Hi Ho, it’s off to France I go. I will not talk about Portsmouth traffic except to say my first 128 miles took 21/2 hours and the last 10 miles took 50 minutes. Being pathologically early meant I was in plenty of time for the almost empty ferry! It was a lovely afternoon in Portsmouth with a moderate breeze and warm sunshine, ideal for attempting to capture the views as we departed. I am sure...
Moggerhanger Music Session October 2024
Another full house for the October 2024 music session at Moggerhanger Village Hall. Richard did a grand job of managing the flow of musicians who all did a great job. It was nice to welcome an excelent acapela group, "Jack in the Barrel”, who gave us a bit (listen to the video for what this means). The headline picture will give a sense of the number of musicians on deck.
I have created a photo...
Apple Day 2024
It was Apple Day in Potton on Sunday and I popped along hoping to see Caroline and her fellow musicians in Ragged Staff entertain the crowd. My timing was out and I missed their set but caught a chunk of Drunk and Disorderly’s set which got a few dancing. We played here a couple of years ago but could not make it this year. Whether the draw was the music, the cider or other apple related products,...
